Konawa Poets Published in National Anthology

November 2, 2005

Last year, Mrs. Carol Shi's class had a few poems published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. Stories about their writing accomplishments have been in three local newspapers: The Ada Evening News, The Konawa Leader, and The Seminole Producer. The students are in fifth grade now and plan on writing more poems in the future.

Mrs. Shi has a copy of the Anthology of Poetry book in her classroom and the web site for the publication is www.anthologyofpoetry.com. Here is a sample of the student's poetry:

Ocean

I hear the waves of the ocean.
I sample the salt water on my tongue.
I see a dolphin jump up and then
return with a big splash.
I can fell the warm ocean breeze
across my face.
The scent of the ocean filled me with emotions.

by Julie (age 10)

An elementary student at Konawa and a member of the Seminole Nation, Julie was encouraged by her Principal, Vicki Fleming, and teacher, Carol Shi.
