Karla Davis Earns National Board Certification

November 22, 2004

Konawa Public school is proud to announce that Karla Davis, our librarian, is the now a Nation Board Certified Teacher. Karla is the first Konawa teacher to earn this certification. National Board certification is a year-long process. Karla received a scholarship from ELO (Leadership Education Oklahoma) to pay the $2300 assessment fee.

During the process, Karla had to complete four portfolio entries and answer six assessment prompts with a 30 minute limit for each exercise. The first three portfolio entries were classroom-based and included videotapes and examples of student work. She had to explain the lessons and analyze them. The last portfolio entry showed work with students, their families and community and collaboration with the professional community. Teachers who go through this process agree it is the best staff development experience available. See National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for more information.
