SAFETY PROCEDURES

  1. Be sure that all items such as books, pens, pencils, purses, bags, backpacks, etc. are kept out of the aisles.
  2. Please push your chair up to your desk (under the keyboard) when leaving. This will also help keep aisles clear.
  3. Adjust the chairs to your height. Never stand on a chair with rollers. Always sit with all rollers flat on the floor. Do not lean so far over as to tip the chair. Also, be careful not to let jacket sleeves or purse straps become entangled in the rollers.
  4. If you notice any cords in the aisles or in an area where a student could trip, please notify your instructor. Do not overload a multiple outlet plug.
  5. If you discover any frayed cords on any of the equipment, please inform the instructor immediately.
  6. Be sure to turn off the equipment before looking inside or attempting to remove anything from the inside. When leaning over equipment while it is running, be careful not to let necklaces, bracelets, or long hair become entangled in the equipment.

TORNADO or FIRE EVACUATION

  1. The signal for Konawa students to evacuate because of a tornado is three short rings of the bell.

  3. The signal for Konawa students to evacuate because of a fire is one long ring of the bell.
  4. In case of a fire evacuation, students in the WMI classrooms are to go across the Junior High Student Center and turn right and proceed to the "Tiger" on the east side of the building - away from the building. We are to stay in a group and the teacher will check the roll to make sure that everyone exited the building safely.
CARE OF EQUIPMENT
  1. WMI workers are responsible for their computers while they are on the job.

  7. Do not abuse the use of the Internet by going to sites that are morally questionable in nature. Konawa School's Internet provider has installed a guard to help keep our students from entering questionable sites.

BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA

Business Professionals Of America is an organization that teaches leadership skills as well as business skills. Members have the opportunities to develop their presentation, teamwork, and entrepreneurial skills. They also can gain knowledge about parliamentary procedure, public speaking, good citizenship, and many other useful skills.

Active BPA members (those who have earned the necessary points) attend the State Leadership Contest and Conference in the springtime. At the contest, members put to test the skills that they have learned. The winner (and runner-up in most events) is privileged to attend the National Leadership Conference in the summer and compete against the winners from across the nation. The NLC is held in various cities in the United States, including: Dallas, Chicago, and Cincinnati.

Some opportunities that are offered to BPA members are: meeting new people, traveling, learning important business skills, and participating in state workgroups such as the state Multimedia workgroup, running for local and state office. The local chapter is active each year with community service projects, fund raising projects, multimedia workgroup, and various local projects.

Konawa BPA chapter elects the following officers each year:

The top four offices listed (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary) are required to have been in BPA (or FBLA) previously (unless there are no such applicants). Students may obtain an officer application from Mrs. Johnston when the application process is opened each fall.

Students are required to pay $5 in membership dues in order to join BPA. Ten dollars goes to the national chapter, $4 to the state, and $1 to the local chapter. JOM will pay dues for students who are eligible.
