Over the years, shop classes at Konawa Public School have gone by many names: Shop, General Shop, Wood Shop, Wood Technology, Carpentry, Construction Carpentry, Vocational Carpentry, A.T.A.E., C.V.E.T., Building and Grounds Maintenance, Drafting, and Mechanical Drafting just to name a few. The faculty members who have taught these courses include: Mr. Thomas, Arnold Robertson, Jim Williams, Lance Guinn, and Jerry Guinn among others.
Some of these classes have built several of the houses in our area. Many of the features of our campus were built by the shop class students as well. We have a long history of training students in the construction trades.
Currently we offer a course called Construction I which is taught by Mr. Jim Phillips. The students began the year by studying safety and tool identification. So far this year the class has built props for a school play, a storage building, and a shed for a motorcycle. At the time of this update, they are working on a storage building at Sasakwa and working with computer aided design. As we gather more information and pictures from the current class, we will add them to this page. Meanwhile, you may enjoy the gallery of photographs above from previous year's shop classes.
