Accelerated Reading Program
At the beginning of the
year the school administers a Star or Star Early
Literacy
test to all the K-5 grade students. The teachers
analyze the Star
tests
and then set individual goals for their students.
They set three main
goals-points, book level average, and comprehension
average. They then
as a class work towards Reading Renaissance Model
Class which is twelve
weeks of them meeting those individual goals. They
read for sixty minutes
each day and take comprehension tests over the books
they read. This
year Konawa has fourteen out of eighteen teachers who have already
made Model Teachers
and are working towards becoming Master Educators
which is the same
process for eighteen consecutive weeks. Last year Konawa
certified as a Master School in Reading Renaissance.
Focus on Reading
The FOR program is a web based program that works on
visual memory,
fluency, and comprehension. It is used by Jill
Ruth,head instructor, Amy Eropkin, JOM
tutor, and Debbie Watters 5th grade reading
specialist.
It is used as a pull out program to strengthen the
reading skills of our
students. Mrs. Ruth and Mrs. Eropikin have fifty-two students
from 1-4th grades who come to them
for thirty minutes each day. They are trying to remediate
reading
difficulties
of the students.
