One of the most impressive features of our campus is the high school gymnasium, built in 1974. The superintendent at that time was Mr. A.W. Barrett. The school board members were: L.M. Maxwell (President), Ervin L. Lane (Vice President), Edward L. Branscum (Clerk), W. Tucker Jr. (Treasurer), and members Paul Fallis and Ben Frank. Powell construction company was the general contracter for the job and Locke Wright Foster were the architectural planners.

The high school gymnasium has four spacious locker rooms located under the bleachers. The first five rows of seats on each side of the gym are upholstered. The first four rows of seats retract to expose two full basketball courts. The gym originally had windows on the north and south walls above, but they were bricked in when air conditioning was installed in the building. The lobby of the gymnasium servers many purposes. The room not only serves as a concession area and a showcase for the Konawa teams trophy collection during basketball games, it also serves the purpose of cafeteria for the high school and junior high students. We are very proud of the facilities here at Konawa Public Schools and do all we can to preserve their condition. If you ever visit our campus to attend a basketball game, we think you will agree that we have one of the best gymnasiums in the state. |
